World knowledge about the existence of the concentration camps during the Holocaust?

in the 1940s & the liberation of the camps in 1945
like what did the world knew and did about the nazi concentration camps in the 1940s
a good website link that has that information would be great
 
Unfortunately, any questions about the Holocaust/Hitler/Nazis, etc. tend to get answers ranging from revisionist to the just plain weird and misinformed.
