Work is making me give up my iPhone and go with Sprint: What phone?

I'm currently stuck with a Palm Pre but my boss is giving me an open license with a little bit of a leash to pick something else from Sprint. My iPhone is the BEST phone I've had hands down. Despite its short comings I have literally no reason to pull my mac out for support issues when on the road because my phone can do almost everything my mac can do.

I'm a former AVID WinMo user. I had the G1 for a small period of time but the UI sucked and I hated the lack of exchange support out of the box....I played with a droid and Android 2.0 is way better so I'd be willing to give Google another shot (esp. with native active sync support). I haven't played with the palm pre yet but I'm assuming I'll hate it.

So I have been using a jailbroken iPhone's for the last 3 years, what does Sprint offer in terms of customizability, widerange of applications and coolness (yes I know its subjective) and has exchange support out of the box (or coming very shortly). I've been looking at as much as I can find on the Samsung Moment, the HTC Touch Pro 2, HTC Hero.

What would be the best pick and why. I'm continuing to do my homework but the offer is on limited time from my boss and I'd like to sell my iPhone before any news of the new one comes out.

My personal pick there would be the HTC Hero. Nice smooth UI of the bunch, has the Exchange support and extra HTC goodies added upon Android.

The Pre deserves some playing for a while before you come to your conclusion.

I also suggest going to the Sprint dealer in person and let them hand you the phones so you can try in real person. Sometimes, you need the "feel" and intuitive connection between you and the phone to happen.

That's a pretty good way to end up in a situation where you have completely ignored what might be the best device for your needs.

Well I forgot to say that I took the Pre home they shipped me anyways before I started *****ing to play with. I have been playing with it. I may have just put my mind against it but it seems a little slow and even though I'm in IT i fully admit that I may not be that smart.....I can't figure out how to close a damn application after I've opened it.

WebOS like Android, closes an app automatically when they sense the app is not being used after a period of time or when memory is low to make way for other apps. If you're not comfortable with that, you can always get a task manager to kill them dead.

This part of WebOS and Android needs a bit of getting used to when you come from a Windows Mobile, Symbian or Blackberry background.

My personal opinion is that WebOS has the most elegant user interface for any mobile OS around and it doesn't need some UI layering like Android or Windows Mobile.

The Palm Pre has come a long way from its release. But in my opinion a factory palm pre is not a great phone, which most phones aren't. Check out the Precentral dot net forums. You defiantly want to check out preware which is the best way to customize your pre to your liking

Also to get ride of a running program all you have to do is swipe up like you are throwing the program away.

Well if you want to mess with the phone, then a WinMo/Android is the way to go. XDA always has fun stuff to load up and completely tweak out your phone. Do you have to buy right now? Every provider should be getting new phones with the Snapdragon processors. I dropped my latest WinMo cause I'm sick of the slow response. My new phone is near instant on everything, but it's also not a smartphone. The new 1Ghz processors seem to be really impressive on the youtube vids I've seen. patience or purchase?

If you can wait, Sprint is rumoured to be getting the HTC Supersonic, which is essentially HD2 hardware with Android and Sense UI. That'd be absolutely killer.

The Pre is a really nice phone though. Amazing UI. Give it a bit of time and if you don't like it and can't wait, try the HTC Hero.
