Pretty darn close, but I can usually get him 'cause I'm better at timing my shifts to the power curve. ...Aaaand I might beat my bike a little harder than him.
His bike feels faster to me sometimes when I ride it, but I think it's due to his map being a bit leaner on the bottom in partial throttle. His bike feels crisp, while mine feels like it's fat, similar to being a jet size too rich or the needle taper is too thin (like my FCR carb).
At WOT they feel similar, and it really depends on who's riding better. I can beat him riding his bike vs him on mine.
ON EDIT:
I learned to shift by feel when I was 17 and had a 5.0 Mustang. My friends could never figure out why mine was faster than theirs. It was the difference between shifting at 4500-4800 vs pulling it to the redline. You could feel the car run out of wind above about 4800, and the torque peak was 3000 rpm. Shifting at 4500-4800 would put you right in the torque peak and shoot you forward, while they're running it to the limiter trying to go fast...
Anyway, I shift when I feel the bike falling off. No need to rev it to the moon, but it is fun to bounce it off the rev limiter from time to time!
