Is it possible that an extremely smothering controlling mother, who behaves as much like a child as her child, and who denies her child any independance, can lead to behavioural patterns in the child that may be interpreted as autistic? The child does not really fit the description I have read online of this disorder. This child from the time she was born, has not been allowed to interact with other family members, the mother would rarely allow others to hold her, she couldnt crawl without the mother hanging on to her. In circumstances where the child was playing normally with someone, her grandfather for instance, and happy, the mother would come in in a stressed manner and say to the child, its all right, its all right, and cause the child to become stressed and begin to cry. She hasnt been allowed to play outdoors in the heat of summer without being covered from head to toe, glasses and hat, because of a paranoia on the mothers part about sunshine. The mothering has been nothing short of bizarre, and I am concerned that this has, if not caused the emotional problems this dear child is experiencing, or if it is truly autism, greatly contributed to it. Does anyone have any comment on this?
