We have a 2006 Ford Escape XLT (V6) and tonight it just quit starting. My bf noticed the battery light came on a couple of days ago and said that it came on and off each time he went over bumps, then it quit coming on. He said that the "shield" and wires were a bit loose so he tightened them then and it all seemed ok. So again today he said it came on once and then went off soon after with no problems. Tonight I went to the store (started okay at home and again went I left from the store) with out incident, on the way home I did hit a big bump but did not notice the battery light come on on the dashboard. Got home and just as I was turning off the car I did notice the battery light was on. So I decided to start the car and all I got was the "r-r-r-r-r" sound and then clicking noise and that's all it's doing now...????....Everything else is working (radio, headlights, windows, although they go a bit dimmer when I use more things at once). I'm pretty clueless about cars and thought I'd ask here before we take it in this week(I'm very wary of mechanics, amongst other people, lol).

P.S Oh yeah and he also tried to see if anything needed to be tightened or if we need any fluid somewhere, but we it was all ok. I can't think of any other info I can give other than it's at 76000KLM.
