Wonder Woman...never?

Seriously disappointed with the latest news about a Wonder Woman movie stalling. I've fond memories of the classic 70s show (what teen boy at the time doesn't :D!), and believe this could be a strong film franchise. Considering the glut of second/third-tier heroes that have made it to the big screen eg, Iron Man, HellBoy, Daredevil and those soon to debut...Green Lantern, Thor and Lobo (jeez!), it's surprising that Wonder Woman is still absent.

Iron Man struck the right balance - not overtly 'dark', retaining the fun elements too and a solid origin story. Get Jon Favreau involved (or JJ Abrams, who has a good track record with strong female roles) to get it off the ground. Yes, casting appears to be a problem but if it means going for an 'obvious' choice like Megan Fox as WW to get bums on seats, then I've no problem with that.

With Marvel continuing to churn out their heroes (boring Spider-Man, X-Mens, Wolverines etc), it's a shame this tent pole DC character continues to languish in development Hell.
I think DC/Warners are going to come unstuck with Green Lantern and Lobo and what with Supes dead in the water, they need a recognisable hero to fill that gap and Wonder Woman fits that bill. Alternatively, they could just rely on Batman to fill the coffers every couple of years...

Anyone agree / disagree?
 
Well Jonah Hex will be the next DC character to come to big screen i think. Which i don't understand because there are more established character's waiting their turn. Plus i don't like the character. As for Wonder Woman i'm not surprised that the film keeps stalling in production. As i feel the studios don't have a lot of faith in the project. I think that is because female superheroes don't translate well onto the big screen. I'm not sure why though. So i think we will see alot of DC characters come and go before Diana ever gets her chance.While saying that i've just remembered they still have plans for a Justice League movie, which won't be released until 2015 or so. So therefore a Wonder Woman Movie may not even be seen in the next decade.
 
should have made it with sandra bulloch because of ONLY ONE THING ..... her slo-mo running in practical magic!!!

would pay good money to see her in that outfit doing that!!!!

I've always thought that WW is a female version of Superman (disregarding Supergirl of course). There's been no Hollywood version of it because I think it's not very profitable for WB. The majority of comic fans/readers are male. Little boys that would perhaps go see the eventual film wouldn't be interested in collecting the action figures or buying the merchandise that would inevitably follow. No money made for the studio hence a bad investment.
You only have to lok at how bad Supergirl is as a film and how poorly it performed to realise why no female lead superhero film has been produced.
Luck at the transition of Buffy from camp early 90s movie to being one of the best TV series produced. It'll be interesting to see how Fran Kuzui's version fares?
 
Point taken re: Supergirl (though it wasn't all bad). But there have been successful fantasy movies with female lead roles eg, Underworld, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider to name but a few. Granted, these may not have set the movie world alight, but I can't see a Wonder Woman movie being particularly worse than any of the aforementioned.

Of course, Joss Whedon was courting the idea once (and I maintain Firefly's Morena Baccarin was the standout choice), so maybe the current Buffy crew might have a stab in the future, but I'm not holding my breath on this one...
 
I always thought Kristin Davis (Charlotte Sex & The City) would've been a good casting - but she's too old to play her now sadly.

I NOW think it should be singer Katharine McPhee (runner up on American Idol season 5. She's had acting experience...not that it's THAT important. Wonder Woman is all about male hormones! and Kat has that in spades. (and I'm gay!!)

Unfortunately she's sporting a blonde bob at the moment - which doesn't suit her AT ALL

she's a minor character, i mean people know about her rather vaguely, but her back story etc aren't well known or iconic. she doesn't translate to film without major reworking... a magic lasso?

it has to be more than just a hot girl. cat woman, elektra were horrible. the back story has to be compelling.

megan fox has no power to get butts into seats, jennifers body proved that.

anyways there were more than enough super girl types on tv, dark angel, dollhouse, the terminator chick show, buffy etc
 
DC is owned by a conglomerate whereas Marvel was until recently an indy studio.

Which explains the difference in emphasis when it comes to exploiting IP.
