Women who use The Pill (for birth control; not menstral regulation), how long do you...

...use it? This is a question for the sake of knowledge. It does not reflect what I have done sexually, or considered, or used as birth control.

I'm 20. No, im not married. Im not planning sex anytime soon. But ... I just had this question for curiosity.

I'm always hearing The Pill recommended for individuals who definately do not want children, and want high degree of effectiveness of birth control. However, considering some of these people may be having sex 4x a week, do some people continually take The Pill ongoing for years? (Assuming they have a steady sexual partner, and, for the sake of this question, are having sex 4x a week). Wouldn't that seriously mess up your body? What about risk of cancer, heart problems, other health problems, etc?

And if you don't take it steadily for the years you are having sex, what do you do? Do you only OCCASIONALLY use The Pill?

Also, since The Pill must be perscribed by the doctor, does that mean you're going to the doctor every week, or every 2 weeks, or something like that just to request a prescription again? That would be a lot of money spent on going for the doctor, when it's just for a re-fill on a prescription.

Obviously, I don't take anything (medication wise) which requires the same prescription to be re-filled over and over, so I don't know if when you need to re-fill a prescription if you need to go back to the DOCTOR, or just tell the pharmacist you need a refill, or what.

Please, be kind in your responses. I do not mean to insult anyone by the nature of this question. if you find this question insulting or unpleasant, there are plenty of other questions available for you to answer. Thank you very much!
