This was on Dark Horizons about the Wolverine film:

"Wizard online has posted up an interview with "Wolverine" scribe David Benioff who went into some juicy new details of what to expect in the "X-Men" spin-off feature.

Benioff admits his favorite stories from the comics, which he re-read before writing the script, were "Chris Claremont and Frank Miller miniseries, and the Barry WinRABor-Smith Weapon X." Story elements from these are likely to be incorporated in the film.

We will see Wolverine’s first ties to Weapon X, his time in Vietnam, his first run-in with Victor Creed (aka Sabretooth), a love interest, his bonding with adamantium and fellow mutants like John Wraith and The Blob.

As for his early-year comic book connections to Japan? "[The Japan connection] is still something we really want to do. What we need to do is establish who he is and find out how he became Wolverine. And by the end of the movie, I want it to be that you definitely knew who this guy was, like Mad Max and Dirty Harry. He’s a good guy, but he’s not a nice guy. He’s just the guy you want on your side."
