I halfed each week from 60 to 30 to 15 to 0 morphine. My 0 week being at least 3 weeks ago. The horrible part of withdrawal is done but I still have the sweats and I go nuts every night because I still can't sleep. My husband says it is all in my head. Could anybody tell me how long this sleeplessness is supposed to last? I can handle the hot flashes.

It could last quite a while. Have you tried taking diphenhydramine (Benadryl)? Taking 50-100MG's of that a night might help quite a bit. If not, you may have to see your doctor. Perhaps clonidine could help as well. The symptoms are caused by autonomic excitability. You're not taking the opiate anymore, so your body has to adjust to having to calm itself down. It could take months, but there are plenty of non addictive options to help you through it.

You could also try taking an advil pm or tylenol pm to help. Are you experiencing any sysmptoms of depression? You may need an anti-depressant, so I concur with the advice that ITakePills gave....see a doc if an OTC med doesn't help.

Thanks--I've been trying benedryl and it has worked once. I'll keep trying it. I see a doctor in a couple of weeks and if I'm still thrashing around at night she might want to give me something to help me sleep. And it definitely helps to know that it's not all in my head!
