With the State of [as] Anime, would Syfy be wise to move to Saturdays?

So, the most recent schedule has been up on Adult Swim's website for a while now. It almost looks like Adult Swim is poised with the option to push action off their block.

For at least the next three months, there's nothing new coming to the Saturday Action Block, there's no new episodes and the amount of shows has twiddled down to long standing signature series of the block (such as Cowboy Bebop and Inuyash) and in house co-produced stuff (such as Big O and GitS).

Syfy (then Sci-Fi) choose to build their block on Monday to mitigate fighting [AS] for their audience.

Wouldn't this be a good time for Syfy to bring the block the weekenRAB ? Moreover, wouldn't it also be a(nother) good idea for DX to start building their weekend block up?

SounRAB like if [AS] is wavering now, it would be a good time to finish them off now with better competition.

Mod Note: This is a topic that probably belongs in multiply places. I'm posting it in General since it covers two networks. Feel free to move / mirror if necessary.

I don't believe Syfy really cares. Still, their self-produced drek would probably take priority to the point of making expansion too expensive to pursue. Doesn't Manga Ent. buy the time?

Actually, Syfy was the one who approached Manga Ent. and asked them to program a block of anime for them. The deal was, Manga handles getting the broadcast rights and program selection. Manga doesn't pay for anything as far as I know.

As far as Syfy expanding the block to Saturdays.....It's very doubtful. Syfy seems happy with the way things are. I also imagine quite a few loyal Syfy viewers would probably pitch a fit if anime started leaking over into other days as a regular part of programing; that last bit being speculation on my part as just the impression I get from Syfy fans I know and the limited amount of Syfy forum viewing I have done.

And Disney Dx....Well I don't get it and it's not even offered where I am

I wouldn't mind them airing movies and the occasional OVA sometime on Saturdays like they did in the old days, but I like the current block right where it is.

it would be a bad idea. Remeraber that the only reason Saturday is adult Swim's anime Night is because that's their worst rated day of the week, and that Comedy shows would not do much better there or they would already have replaced it. Syfy would probably lose viewers if they moved it to Saturdays given how Saturday Evenings is probably the worst time slot for something like anime. What with most of the target audence not being home at that time. No Monday Nights is a far better time Slot then Saturday Nights would be.

Anime on American TV is dying. [as] Anime premieres will be nonexistent after 2 more weeks, and with as many catalog anime series as they're losing, I wouldn't be surprised if it stayed that way for quite a while or even got worse. Syfy only has one anime premiering, and since the only other mainstream network that's premiering non-Americanized anime is Disney XD, who also only have one anime, I think we should be worrying about networks airing anime at all before we worry about what day of the week they do it on.

Why move to Saturday nights? They could just have anime on Monday and Saturday nights. Maybe they could show reruns of Gundam, Monster, etc.

Well I dont think we have to worry about syfy cause they renewed ani-monday for another year.

Well the point is that if they still only have one anime premiering for the next year, and then who knows what, I think they should focus on getting more instead of moving the block to a different night.

There's some good points here in so far.

I actually personally find it hard to believe Saturday nights is a bad time slot, but I did a little research and it's most certainly true.

I guess I have a certain romanticism about Saturday nights being a prime time for nerdy things on at twilight hours. As far back as I can think, there's always something really cool on late night Saturdays. I mean even before there was Midnight Run, there was cool things like Mortal Corabat and Night Man.

It wouldn't be a big issue for Disney to arrange their schedule a bit to be more competitive with Adult Swim, but it would be a little harder for Syfy to bank on a Saturday Night Run to make their buck.

Syfy does have a very eloquent solution available to them though. They could run a repeat of Monday's lineup on Saturday night and use that to help push the block.

It really comes down to how much interest Syfy has in helping the block take off. I'm sure they aren't particularly happy that Gundam 00 didn't do as well as they no doubt expected it to, but I do think advertising plays into that a lot.

Wait, so Ani-Monday gets better ratings than [as] on Saturdays? Can I get some nurabers for both of the stations?

I'm lovin' Monster, but it would be nice to get another new anime. Not now, though, since NaT, HaT is one of my top 10 favorite anime of all time.

Silly they'll just wait to rented at your local video store, after all who'd rent Drag Me to Hell or Up when there's Abomniable, and Mega Snake?

On Topic: I'd pefer if it was just longer, Monday seems pretty good since nothing is really competing with it, but the only problem is that I don't think SyFy really knows what to do with it, hell they're worse CN.

I dont hink they're that bad I just wish they'd extend it to 4 hours. I read that they're getting some new anime next year unlike some other networks.
