With the far right's victory in education, how can I hold out hope for the USA?

Europeans don't really care about abortion or gay marriage -- stupid social issues that are between people and their god. If you don't like abortions, don't get one. If you don't like gay marriage, don't get married to someone of the same gender (when homosexuality CLEARLY is biological). The Christian right is hung up on planting the seeds of resistance towards these things in the minds of children.

Regardless, the US is falling behind in math and science...you know, the two fields of study that...I dunno, heals the sick, send man into space, builds airplanes -- heck, created the machines we're using now, at this very moment.
For 15-year-olds (10th graders) a study showed U.S. students 28th in math and 22nd in science, out of a total of 39 countries studied.

That's depressing. Now, the other shoe has dropped. Social studies, history and economics lessons have all been slanted towards the right. For example, teachers in Texas will have to cover the Judeo-Christian influences of the nation's Founding Fathers. However, not highlight the philosophical rationale for the separation of church and state. (ap)

Jefferson Arthur the "Jefferson Bible" (not exactly love by the right-wing). Benjamin Franklin once said "I have found Christian dogma unintelligible. Early in life, I absenteed myself from Christian assemblies." I could go on but to say all, or even most, of the founding fathers were in bed with a common, or any, Christian world-view is simply a fallacy. It was because they were not that they were able to create a nation as successful as the USA...now that's in peril.

Isn't the whole purpose of an education to be...educated? Not indoctrinated, but given the tools, over a 12-13 year period to think for yourself and the only way that can be done is if every effort for bias to be left at the door.

The world looks down on the USA. Americans know they're viewed as stupid and, as someone who has been there, many time, I don't think that's entirely accurate, many Americans I know are beyond intelligent. However, things like this bigotry-win are not really helping.

P.S. I can't write, I know. Math and science are what I'm good at...
It was because of this that they were able to create a nation as successful as the USA...now that's in peril*.
