...find it unusual that...? This may be just me, but the R&S forum tends to have a liberal standing, while Politics, Elections and whatnot seem to be fairly conservative?

No, I've noticed it too. I personally like to spend some time in each forum, often with confusion. I feel like a very liberal voice in the Politics forum and like a very conservative voice in the R&S forum. A bit odd.

I find some of the questions here on R&S to be more interesting, and we actually see a diversity of opinion and even some interaction. Politics tends to be just ranters preaching to their choirs.

Anyone who thinks R&S is rude and impolite should visit Politics and you'll come back here with a better sense of appreciation, even for the 'other' side (if you perceive one).

I think R&S, despite its ideologues, generally attracts people with an actual interest in what others think (even if only to tell them thry are 'wrong,' whether they are or not), rather than the Politics people who just want to hear themselves rant.

The atheist contingent of R&S tend to be liberal. although there are many liberal xtians and conservative atheists..

but yeah in Politics it seems 90% are conservative americans
