With the Bose aviation headset can you still hear aircraft noise?

I am thinking about making that big investment in a headset. Of all headsets I know the Bose is top of the line. As a student pilot, I do have one concern. Can you still hear engine noise, as this can be vital in a small aircraft? Please only respond if you have used this headset. Thanks!
Ya when I fly with my instructor he gives me a DC to use and I notice that after an hour I get a headache due to the scrunch against my ears. That is why I like the ANR headsets but like I said I just wanted to make sure you can still hear what you need to. Also will places that sell headsets ever let you go try them to see if you like the feel of them?
That really hurts to hear it's worth a 1000 dollars haha. Ya I plan on making a career out of it. How long can I plan on it lasting in your estimation?

Of course you can still hear the engine noise, it just cancels most of the louder noise allowing you to hear communications better. The Bose headset is extremely comfortable and the ANR works very well. It sucks to say, because they are so expensive, but they are completely worth $1000.

If you plan on persuing a career in aviation, buy the Bose headset. If you are only planning on flying recreationally, just buy a decent David Clark (they have more comfortable ones than the basic ones you have probably used) or a mid-range Lightspeed headset.
