With regard to the "pit type" attack in yesterday's news?

I read a question on the board posted by "John." He advocates classes in our schools to teach our children the dangers of a dog.
I think BSL dollars could be better spent on education...of all people.
With this in mind: What would you have taught in this type curriculum... aside from the obvious...NO BYBing.
 
If they only learn one thing - don't approach strange dogs. That would solve a lot of problems.

However, it would not have saved John-Paul Massey. Nor would it have saved Ellie Lawrenson, Cadey-Lee Deacon or Archie-Lee Hirst.

For those, there was no education that could have been given to those children that would have saved them. In those cases, it was absolute stupidity ("almost" criminal negligence...) on the part of the adult owners.

Education is not (or, *should* not) be solely for children.

Still, that doesn't quite answer the question - what to teach children.
Respect the dog's space.
The dog's bed is for the dog.
Let sleeping dogs lie (it's not just a phrase!).
You want to stroke the dog? Call it over. Stroke it *only* if it comes to you (AND if the owner has given permission).
Never stroke a dog without asking permission of the owner first.
