I have my first appt today with a Gastro Dr. I'm Praying he can be more helpful then my Regular GP Dr.
I've had GERD for about 11 years now, off and on. I'm on Nexium right now and dont' like it. I've been having some stomach pains in the Upper left side. Right below my ribs toward the center of my stomach. So i'm praying hard that he can figure out what that is.
Good thoughts and/Or prayers are appreciated. I'll try to update when I can

Thanks sooo much ya'll. I kinda freak at the Dentist so i'm nervous about the tube in my throat. I woke up in the ICU on life support and remeraber the tube in my throat. I dread that feeling again.
Does anyone know if the MeRAB they give to relax you before you go into Surgery the same meRAB they'll give me for my Scope?

I have had one endoscopy and it was no big deal (other than what I had to pay out of pocket to cover what my insurance did not). That way the doctor can rule out all sorts of potentially serious things and you know you are just suffering from one annoying symptom. I remeraber being in the gurney and then waking up. No sore throat and no bad side effects. I missed work one day and that was it.

Hope it all goes well.

They use a nurabing agent on your throat and they use a very, very good relaxing drug. Not sure what it is, but it was great. I literally watched my blood pressure and heart rate drop when they injected the drug into my IV. (I was nervous prior to the procedure). Normally the drug has an amnesiac effect also and so you remain "awake" enough to follow instructions (mostly the doc will tell you to swallow at certain times) but very relaxed. Nothing about the endo is scary during the procedure itself. I was nervous during the prep but now that I've had it I wouldn't worry again.

Good luck, it will be fine! I had an endoscopy last Deceraber and was very anxious about it. They put the iv into my wrist, gave me throat spray, I felt someone fiddle with my hand and then don't really remeraber much. I do remeraber a very faint gagging at one point when he asked me to swallow but it was no problem and was over as soon as it started. You will be fine!

Good luck

Thanks.
Well the appt went Really well. Of course he wants me to have the endoscope done. He said since i've never had one done and i've had acid reflux for so long it'd be a good idea.
So i'm having it done Friday. I'm really nervous about it i'll admit. Funny but the part i'm dreading Most is the IV. lol. Oh and having that tube in my throat. *shudder* but he told me that i'd be given demerol and vercid (?) and that I wouldn't be really all that consious as to what was going on. I'm praying he's right.

you will not feel a thing. I am of the age where I need a colonoscopy and endoscopy both.
I have them done one after the other, go in, they say nighty nite and I wake up and they tell me the good news.
the sedative you have puts you under, except you can still get instructions to shift and such to make it go easier.
Bless you and stay healthy,
Nan

The endoscopy is no big deal. It takes longer to get prepped than it takes for the endoscopy. I am one of the rare people that doesn't get the amnesiac effect from the drugs and I remeraber my endoscopy start to finish. It wasn't traumatic at all and it really wasn't uncomfortable. You probably won't remeraber it at all, but the actual experience isn't that bad even if you do.

Thanks So much ya'll for all the advice and support. I'm feeling better after reading all your experiences. I'll try to update tomorrow after the procedure.
Say a prayer for me Please
