Wisdom Teeth

So I didn't know whether to put this in Burps & Bloopers or Life Sucks so I put it here for now since the surgery hasn't happened yet.

Anyways...yeah I'm really fuckin nervous about getting my wisdom teeth taken out. I've had surgery before so I'm used to being knocked out but I'm really obsessive about my mouth and everything in it...so naturally I'm a little freaked out when I hear they're gonna knock me out, then I'm going to wake up (via magical transportation) in my house with stitches all in the back of my mouth and gauss filling every orifice.

That sounds like it really, really sucks. Has anyone had theirs out? Is the recovery painful at all? I have 3 friends who have gotten the procedure done and none of them say it was but its different for everybody.

That stinks, man. Good luck! I've managed somehow to keep mine, but then again, I also had a tooth grow sideways out the bottom of my mouth back in the day. I guess I got all the horrible stuff over with early.

Enjoy the painkillers, dude. Whooooooooo!

Get them out before they fuck the rest of your mouth up. I waited too long to get mine out; ended up having to have about 8 root canals, 4 crowns and a bridge. Recovery isn't too bad depending on how hard they are to get out.

I would agree with Tostig, unless you have a big mouth (no pun intended). Some people can function perfectly with their wisdom teeth, since their jaw and mouth can hold them. Others aren't so lucky.

Don't freak out over the surgery, the meds they give are fucking sweet. A funny thing happened to me over my wisdom teeth. I woke up about 5 minutes after the surgery, with my mouth full of blood, new stitching, and gauze. When we got to Wal-Mart to pick up my penicillin prescription, I stayed in the car and laid my seat back (I was tired). Well, having a cold at that time meant that was a bad idea, since I couldn't really breathe. So I open the door, mouth all spit and blood filled, and open my mouth (I would've spit, but your muscles haven't reached that point in recovery yet, and the stitching would come out). Anywho, after I opened my mouth, I left a pool of blood on the parking lot. Some old lady saw me and "ran" inside to get help. At that point my mom came back and I told her we needed to leave.

Again, don't fret the surgery, it's not bad. As for recovery time, the first 2 or 3 days suck ass, I'm laying it straight. After that, you should be fine.

i had mine out a couple years ago. the only problem i had was the right side of my mouth wouldn't stop bleeding. i had to suck on a teabag (stfu) nothing is more unerving than waking up not knowing where you are and covered in blood, but what happened to me was rare.

most likely your cheeks will be yellowish from bruising and you'll have severe cotton mouth, solid food will be off limits for a few days, and you won't remeber shit including anthing you say while you are delerious supposedly i was awake when i left but i don't remeber anything till i woke up on the couch.

wisdom teeth is a minor surgery, no worries man hell people will wait on you for a few days and you get some good pain killers.

Theres nothing much I can say but good luck really. I could only tell you about being knocked out and you've already experienced it before.

So as you wished for my balls to hang in peace, I wish for your mouth to suck like it always has.

Don't sweat it man, it's no big deal. My mouth is small, I've had my wisdom teeth AND my twelve year molars removed. Just take it easy and do what they tell you to do afterwards.

Oh, and if they ask you if you want gas or an I.V. for the surgery, go with the I.V, you won't even know it happened.

I only had two wisdom teeth removed and they were impacted (meaning they were above all my other teeth so that had to go up in their and dig them out). I used to have a severe dental phobia (getting better now) so I was freakin scared out of my mind. Just ask for demeral....you won't even remember it...you'll just wake up asking for more. I also brought music to listen to, most dentist don't mind if you do this. Now the recovery is pretty throbbing and annoying. Just hope they give you some tylenol 3 or codine and just try to sleep through it.

Good luck!

exactly as with me ..

@ angrywelshman : it sounds horrible , but afterwards you feel much better, after the stuff healed out good of course.
you really need to cool down your 'chops' ( hope its the right word, im still no english dictionary), or else they will swell up like cake mixture ....
and if you really do this the whole time you will be back on your feet at no time ..

and this knock out stuff ... i enjoyed it, i like the feeling, he injects the stuff in your arm, and then it's like liquid air running through your veins, so freakin cold  (oooooohweeeee) and when it reaches your neck , it's like you turned out the TV, and in the next second everything is over and you wake up ..
it's really no deal, trust me i runned the procedure twice, right side left side both teeth .... makes 4 in the end :D and no i'm not insane :D

This sounds familiar. I think there's a thread on it somewhere. Anyway, I just had all my wisdom teeth pulled in March. I wouldn't suggest it for shits and giggles, but it's not as horrible as it could have been either.

1) Be sure to follow all the doctors orders. If he says don't use a straw, don't use a straw damn it. You don't want dry sockets. TRUST me. I didn't get them, but I've heard more than one horror story from close friends of mine about getting them.

2) Get some really brothy soup because that's all you'll be able to have for the first couple of days. I had a lot of pain and couldn't eat anything solid for almost a week and even then it was hard to eat even a soft pancake with syrup.

3) Ice, Ice, ICE!!! This will keep the swelling down and it'll keep you from turning every color of the rainbow.

When I was knocked out (for the first time in my life, btw) I didn't feel anything, I was slow to come out and it really helped me later on. The pain really isn't too bad. I had some pain the night after the surgery and started to cry because I was tired and couldn't eat my soup and I was just stressed out, so mom gave me a pain killer. It killed any of the pain and it also killed anything else. I was out like a light. It's not so bad. I probably wouldn't do it again willingly, but I've been through worse.

Getting knocked out is pretty fun, and like Killerbean said, go with the IV if they make an offer. The gas can be smelly. I haven't gotten my wisdoms out yet, but I'm looking forward to it. Nothing like get drugged up and getting to miss a couple days of school. But most people I know who get dental surgery say the recovery is painful. But most people I know are whiners.

Wow... I've so been there. It sucked for me.

I had my first one out a few years before the other three. It wasn't so bad because it was coming out. It was fucking up my sinuses really bad, though. They didn't knock me out, instead, they shoved this long pointy needle my tender mouth flesh. I swear I heard it growl.

Then, the other three started bothering me. They would all try and come up, then go back in. It went on for a year or two. It was so fucking PAINFUL. So, the day before Thanksgiving, I went to have them taken out. They had knock me out, cut open my gums, and remove the motherufuckers.

I loved the after-effects of the anesthesia. I got to have my sister come get me, and I rode a wheelchair through the grocery store (legitimately, for once). I acted goofy and it was okay. It was before Thanksgiving. Guess what I had for dinner. Fucking mashed potatoes. For three fucking days. BUT: I sat around fucked up on Percocet and watched cartoons ALL DAY. It was fucking awesome.

They tell you not to smoke for two weeks. I figure, "pot will be ok! Cigs are the bad stuff." So I smoked pot. And got dry sockets. Whatever you do after the surgery, DON'T SMOKE! ANYTHING. I had to go back to the dentist because of the incredible dull pain. It was like nothing else. It's the sucking action. Don't drink from a straw either.

When at the dentist, he stuck this horrible metal thing into the dry holes in my gums. I started crying and he said to me, "Stop crying. Grow up." So naturally, I started crying even harder. LoL What a fucking prick!

He should let ME around his goddamn gums with a pointy metal apparatus. I will fucking pwn his bitch ass. I HATE dentists. More so than dirty base boards. :thumbsdn:

Wow you guys all have some pretty good stories there; mdot that sounded fucking awful and so far I don't have dry sockets so that's good.

Anyway I got up at like 9:45 and got to the surgeon's office at 10:30, ready to get this shit over with. Immediately they gave me NO2 (laughing gas) and I felt like I had just smoked some fucking hash or something...it was awesome. Then the surgeon came in and put the IV in and I slowly drifted off to sleep listening to him talking about water-skiing or something. Apparently I talked to my mom and the surgeon afterwards and even did my Belushi-eyebrow trick.

All I remember is waking up in my parent's room (with their extra comfy bed) with all the blinds closed and the fan running. The meds they gave me are pretty nice...some sort of codeine-vicodin mixture so I'm feeling pretty good right now. Hopefully I won't get dry sockets...I'm gonna try not to smoke or any of that shit for a while.
