I recently had an infection on my gums on the side of my right, bottom wisdom tooth, it was a small bump that when popped released puss. I went in and the my dentists put me on some antibiotics and decided he is going to remove my right bottom and top wisdom teeth (right in his office with normal anesthetic). He didn't even X-ray them when I was in about the infection (which is now gone).
Last year he took X-rays and told me there would be no need for extraction and that everything was fine and this infection was simply the skin around the tooth (from it pushing it's way up), I still have a flap of skin partly over the tooth which I keep biting (which he doesn't want to remove). The gums around my tooth were red and a little swollen, partly from biting the skin flap but partly from the infection.
The tooth itself didn't hurt, just the skin around it, from what I've heard an abscess makes the tooth itself hurt as well.
He is pretty gun-hoe when it comes to pulling teeth and having wisdom teeth taken out (since we don't need them according to him).
I also recently started inhalers for asthma which have been drying my mouth out big time, I'm very sure that was also a part of the infection since he told me to use a certain mouthwash because bacteria grows easier.
Anyone ever experience this? He simply decided it was an abscess and never really looked into it besides just looking at my tooth and giving me the prescription. I'm going to get a second opinion, but any advice/personal stories that might help would be nice. The bottom tooth has a very long root which he said might cause some troubles with coming out, I really don't want to go through that for no reason.
