So, I've just moved into my new flat. It's actually a basement apartment and I'm renting it from the family who owns it. They have a wireless connection at home and I'm very lucky to have the router down in my room. However, my old laptop can't catch any signals anymore after years of abuse, and currently I'm using one of those USB internet sticks. The connection is rather slow and poor though.
I figured that since the router is literally next to me, can't I just plug in an ethernet cable to my computer, connected to the router? Would it affect the wireless signal and make it unusable for the family? Or would it work like intended, and would I also be able to benefit from it?
