A winter storm warning will be in effect until 3 a.m. Friday, the National Weather Service is reporting
Rain will change to snow from west to east late Thursday afternoon, with some heavy snow. The heaviest snow and lowest visibility should be between 5 and 9 p.m. in the area.
According to NWS, two to six inches of snow are likely, with the highest amounts across the far north and northwest suburbs.
Winds will be up to 30-40 mph with gusts as high as 60 mph.
"The combination of the intense snowfall and very strong winds will result in greatly reduced visibilities and possibly near blizzard conditions.
