windows media player wont play wmv?

i have videos that are wmv and they stopped working on windows media player? whats wrong. i have vista. and is there a media player other than wmp that plays wmv files?
 
i dont know what would be wrong. but to get to the point i stopped using it and downloaded winamp. its a media player that kicks ass
 
Right click on any file of any type (including .wmv) and select "properties".

On the "general" tab towards the top is a line that reads: "opens with" with a button that says "change"

Click on the "change" button and select whatever application you want to use to open that file type.

In this case you'd find your .wmv file and select windows media player to open it.
