Windows media player music is distorted?

Everytime I want to play music that is saved on my windows media player it is either distorted or really slow. Also when I am in the internet the sounds from my computer come out a bit strange. Is there something wrong with my sound card, how do I fix it. Any help would be appretiated. Thanks.
 
well if you download it from limewire it has viruses so it causes the slowness but if you regulary download from the internet could be hacked or have viruses so BE AWARE
