I have Windows Media Player 11 and every time I play a video (doesn’t matter what type, I’ve tried everything, WMA, WMV, MP4 , ASX etc), I get an audio and a black screen or NO video. It was working fine up until now. There’s not even visualizations available nor a video border color when I selected it, just blank screen period.

I tried lots of stuff/suggestion I found on the net already, like updating my WMP but there’s not updates available and installing codecs. I installed Vista codec package, Community codec package, K-Lite, Cole2k, DivX, Media player codec package and a bunch more. I also ran a codec tweak tool at one point but still no luck.

I’ve installed GOM Player and loved it! And my videos work just fine on iTunes. Even though WMP11 is not my preferred choice of media player, I want it to work properly because it is the only way I could watch livestream videos, or at least from this site I have a subscription with. They also said that WMP is the only player that’s compatible with their videos. But I found out Real Player can also play them! I really thought my problem was fixed but I found out that like WMP11, it doesn’t show the video too! Argh! So I’m beginning to think that it must be a component that I am missing or is broken in my computer or am I still missing a codec from above?

You ask uninstalling WMP11 maybe? I wish it was that easy. Vista as you know suck! LOL It doesn’t let you uninstall WMP11 by itself; it’s not even shown in the list of programs in my computer as it is an integral part of Vista T_T But I am worried that if ever I find a way of uninstalling then reinstalling WMP11, it might still not solve the problem as I’ve already stated above, same thing is happening with Real Player. :)

Only thing or suggestion I’ve read that I haven’t tried YET is to adjust my video acceleration settings in Control Panel or when you right click the video in WMP and go to tools and then options BECAUSE this option is NOT available. In WMP11 it is not even shown in there. Then in Control Panel it says that

“your current display driver does not allow changes to be made to hardware acceleration settings.”

If it matters at all, I am logged in as an Administrator. I have Windows Vista Home Basic, Service Pack 2, 32 bit.

Sorry for the very long post. But I hope I provided enough or too much information. Hehehe Hope someone could help me with this dilemma I've been having for days now! :(

Appreciate your help!
