Windows Media Center won't play MP4 video format?

I have windows vista ultimate and i have my windows media center on my xbox 360 and it won't play any of my videos from my computer (because they're all MP4) is there a way i can make it so WMC can play this format or is there a way i can convert the videos to a format that is playable in WMC for free. Thank you so much
