Will Verizon Wireless let me switch phones?

I have a LG Dare and it keeps on freezing and messing up in different ways. But its a phone I got from Asurion insurance because my last phone was stolen. So my questions are. .

Would I have to go through Asurion to get a new phone?
and if not
Could I switch my phone for something different?
 
You will have to go back through Asurion. Verizon employees are not allowed to mess with insurance phones. Your other option is to pay full retail for a different phone unless you are eligible for an upgrade. Or you could go on ebay or get a phone from a friend to use until you are eligible to upgrade.
