I read over in the "Industry News" section of this web site that Verizon is partnering with Google. The partnership is only for Mobile Searching, but does this mean Verizon might let down the Walled Garden and allow customers to do more customizing with the phones OS? For a very long time people have complained about Verizon's BREW OS. Most other carriers around the world use Java, which is open source. Which means there is lots of free content and the OS's can be customized to offer more. So I was just wondering if this might be a push towards something better for all of us. I doubt Verizon would ever allow Google Android on our phones, but Verizon did announce they were going to show more support to the Open Network Platform.
So I'm just wondering if Verizon may be open to STOPPING their nickeling-and-diming tactic and give us customers more freedom.
But this all could just be a lot of hot air on Verizon's part. So far Verizon's Open Network Platform web site has ZERO users on it.
So does anyone else have any hope that in a few years Verizon will ease up on their whole Walled Garden approach to offering services?
