Will Verizon activate an Alltel phone?

as the title says - I would like to activate a previously alltel phone on my verizon plan. Can this be done?

On a grandfathered Alltel plan, yes. Otherwise, no.

Yes, they can. It just depends on the rep you get. They often try not to because they'd make more money getting you to buy one of their phones rather than activating one they don't sell. Anyway, it can be done.

so does that mean that anyone with an expensive alltel phone trying to get rid of it is out of luck?

They may be able to flash the handset to a non-esn based carrier like Metro or CricKet.
