Will TX synch software install on a PC running XP Home SP1?

Hi, I'm new to the forum and have now decided that the TX is the best product for my needs but I have a question that I need answered before buying. My only main PC is a laptop which unfortunately cannot be upgraded to XP SP2 (there is no doubt about this, Dell agree that it cannot be done). I have recently found that some software - even software said to be compatible with earlier versions of Windows (e.g. 95, 98, Me, 2000) - will not install. I get a system message saying that SP2 must be installed first. I live on a boat overseas and don't have regular access to shops so when I buy the TX I am stuck for nearly 6 months. If it doesn't work, it will probably be impossible to change it so long after buying it and if I can't synch it with the laptop, most of the benefit will be lost to me :( Many thanks :)

The Palm web site shows Windows 2000 (SP4) as being compatible with the TX and doesn't specify that XP requires SP2 - so I'm quite confident that it would work in your case.

However, I'm surprised that SP2 can not install on your Dell - and I'd think this would be an issue for Dell unless this is an extremely old machine. If that PC shipped with XP originally and SP2 can not be installed then I think Dell ought to be partially responsible for some of the issue.

Thanks, that's reassuring :) I wish Dell would do something - the laptop, a Dell Inspiron 8600, was shipped in March 2004 but I don't see that happening. As presented by Dell's user forum, it appears that Intel have not provided BIOS support. Maybe it isn't possible, I don't know, but I shall keep monitoring the Dell forum in the hope that people put enough pressure on them to do something. Until now, it has not been a big problem but there is a new wave of drivers and browse executables that don't work so the functionality is now being compromised.
