Will this plan work for my unlocked iPhone on T-Mobile?

So, I have sprint. It sucks. I want to have an iPhone. What I've read so far, you can unlock an iPhone with T-Mobile.

Here's my plan:
1) Take my friend's old T-Mobile phone and start an individual 500 Minutes Talk + Unlimited text plan.
2) Use the SIM card from that phone on the iPhone (with necessary unlocking.)

Will this work?
