will this get me the hair color I want?

I recently decided I wanted to go ice blonde, that is, as white as blonde can really get. I used a product called "Super Blonde" by L'oreal that was made specifically to lighten dark hair to a nice blonde. I then thought I would lighten my hair even more after that to get the color I wanted. However, I had forgotten that I had dyed my hair something like half a year ago, and some of the dye was still left in my hair (it was black, I believe, but had faded a lot so as to match my natural dark brown hair) This left me with the top of my hair quite dark and orange, and the back of my hair (which was freshly buzzed) a fresh blonde.
What I plan to do is use some hair color remover and then lighten my hair using an ice blonde dye. Do you think this will give me the results I want? I have no experience with hair color remover so I thought I'd ask before trying.
Also, don't tell me to do to a salon. Pretend that's not an option.
