I read the book, and I could see it being a great film, but I really have no desire to see the old classic. I asked around, and almost no one, not even people my parents age, have ever seen the original. Only two people, who had taken film classes at the U, had to see it for class. I personally don't enjoy old films because of the snails pace action, the stilted editing, and worst of all the overacting. But I think its a shame to let the story die like this. It could make a wonderful modern film, even though I realize that a lot of it would have to be treated with care because of the sensitive topic of race and prejudice. I hope that someone is brave enough to bring the story to life.
