It was mooted after the success of the first one. Mark Wahlberg was talking about it quite a bit, saying a second one would be a sequel (with De Niro as a possible corrupt Senator) and then the third one would be a prequel to the first...if you follow me.

Unfortunately, due to various reasons, I don't think it'll ever happen.

If you like Departed...seek out the original ....Infernal Affairs...it's a trilogy...and it's brilliant!
