Will the Itunes price hike be the industry's downfall?

So Itunes hiked the price of all their 'popular' music to $1.29 a song. By popular, they mean if it's ever been on any sort of top single list since 1925, or so it seems.
S will this be the end of legal downloading? I mean $1.29 for a song is rediculous...
