Will older computer games work on my computer if I don't have sound?

I'm using a fairly new computer, but something in it is messed up [hence why I got it for free] and the sound doesn't work at all. I've tried replacing the sound card and I've tried downloading different sound drivers. I know all computer games have minimum requirements so if the sound doesn't work would I be able to play games such as Final Fantasy VII, FEAR, etc.?
