Will myTouch 4G work without data plan?

Hi, I just want to know if the myTouch 4G will work if I cancel the data plan after some months after I brought it. I can use wi-fi only since my whole school is pack with wi-fi and so is my home. I know that t-mobile allow me to cancel the data plan. I just need to know if the phone still work without it. Keep in mind please that I know the phone suck without the data plan but like I said, the place that I spend my day is pack with wi-fi so I don't need to pay 30 dollars for something ill hardly use. Thanks
