my female dog, i believe she is in heat, i went to look at her and couldn't tell so i wiped her and she had a tiny little bit of blood but shiest swollen. now she has a thin where she was going once a year with her cycle. should she stay on the same schedule or could she go off of the schedule. its been 7 months since her last one and she is 5 years old and she is a performance show dog. so we want to breed her. we have another sheltie that is 4 yrs old and she went twice a year last year but she was going every year like the one mention aboved. i dont know if having a 11 month old puppy who i believe had a split heat had to do with the 2nd ones heating cycle. but i was wondering so i know to schedule shows around the time frame. the first one usually went 7-10 months apart but it was every year.
We were going to breed her the last cycle and we talked to a professional sheltie dog handler/breeder that said that we can breed up til she is 7 but would probably recommend breeding her before her next birthday, but we dont want to breed her this cycle but next so i am trying to work out a schedule of shows before her next cycle comes then we have to get her genetics tests ran on her still, etc but the others are going to be fix.so i know about spaying but i am more worried about her cycle because my daughter shows her in 4-h and this will be my daughter's last yr as a 4-her. so we are more worried about that. we may not breed her if her tests come back bad (eye and hip tests).
