Will my 2005 Pontiac G6 run without the "Driver Information Center" in the radio?

I bought a double din car radio and no one will install it because they say the car wont run without the information center somewhere in the car. I think it's false, but I want a defiant answer from someone who knows for sure. I think it will run, I just don't think they want to install it "the wrong way" which is not relocating the DIC somewhere else in the car.
