...water or oil? I have an amount of mercury, currently stored in a plastic bottle inside of a plastic bag. However after a few months the mercury's surface became gray and dull, I'm guessing from reacting with the air inside. I'm also always concerned about mercury vapors whenever I do open the container.
Will having a small amount of distilled water or mineral oil on top of the mercury prevent oxidation, and/or keep the mercury from evaporating? And do I have to worry about the water reacting somehow with the mercury that would make the water toxic? (I don't plan to drink it or anything!)
