Will lifting a Jeep make it ride smoother?

I was just curious. My friend is getting a 5" Lift and 33' tires. I was curious if because of the new suspension, the car would take normal everyday potholes better. My stock Jeep Cherokee feels awful every time I go over one, so I was wondering if having a lift system would make it almost non existent feeling?
 
it will make it a little bit better but not much. 5 in lift with 33's seems a bit small of a tire to me. i got a 6in lift on my truck and my 35's are a bit small.
