Will it be ugly to just let my roots grow out all the way?

I'm done with dying it and I want my natural hair color back. So far the roots are like 3.5" and the rest of my hair is down to the middle of my back or maybe a few inches longer than that. People say I look foolish with my roots grown out but I just want my natural hair color back without bothering it.

Are there any suggestions for growing my roots out?
