Will I go to jail for not doing my community service?

I had to do 90 hours community service and I did 10 of them. I had many reasons for example job, illness, school, hospital, etc. Will they send me to jail or will they fine me? Or will I get some more time to do them? I am 19 years old. Thanks.
Being lazy? I had my graduation exams during this time period with no school I had to do this myself. I was in the hospital for 3 weeks because of illness...are you kidding me?

Ninety hours is a lot of time, so they must have felt your offense was fairly significant.

Usually they think (and it sounds like it to me) that you are not taking all this seriously. Normally they will want to get your attention in a very serious way as result.

Since you could have asked to have the time extended for any real obstactles (illness, hospital but not job or school) they are not likely to be willing to overlook it.

My guess is that depending on the seriousness they will give you real jail time. If they give you another chance expect to do MORE community service. Much depends on the original charges, and how full the local jail is.

You do need a wake up call.

In my experience they give you lots of time to do CS. YOU need go make it your PRIORITY to do it. Having exams or work is everyday. If you WANTED to you could have found five hours a week, and be done in 18 weeks. I bet they gave you six months or more do it...and TEN hours is just pitiful as an effort.

Community service is an alternative to jail. Failure to complete the community service, according to the terms ordered by the court, typically results in being remanded to jail.

If you were in the hospital for several weeks, as you claim, then you should have notified your Department of Corrections contact. You could have gotten an extension of time to complete your community service. However, if you didn't tell anyone and just let the time run out, then no one will feel too sorry for you.
