I've been planning on doing this for a while, and I think the time has come.. I'm 19, and have been looking at the French Foreign Legion for a while as my "choice of path".. I only know that after the basic training, you get to decide if you want to stay or leave, if you decide to stay, it is a five year contract, basic training is about 6 months, so if I don't like it, I won't stay.. But I've been training for a while, as I've heard the training is very tough, as there are ex special forces who join, etc, the acceptance rate is pretty low.. It's made up of over a hundred different nationalities, plus they teach you French.. I really want to challenge myself, more than ever before, the hardest thing I've done so far demanding wise, is military school.. The thing is, is I don't want to get looked down on by my own country..Say if I choose to pursue a different career, after six months.. A common stereotype here in the USA, if your not a "patriot" or whatever, some will look down upon you. People think "French, are 'pus**es".. and whatnot, even though they are part of NATO, and do peace keeping missions in Africa and whatnot.. You know, those hardcore USA loving "patriots".. People keep asking me WHY... What's wrong with it?
"chris 1000" umm, they help our asses in the wars started by US.. lol.
"yak rider" the initial contract is for about 5 months, after training is when you are faced the decision to sign the 5 year contract.. and that info you provided sounds like bs (1 in 8 dies..)
