You should at least tell the detective that you know your friend took the bike because if your friends wants to blame you, he easily could and then it would be your word against his. Also, if the detective eventually figures out it was you, then you'll be in a lot more trouble for lying. If you're only 10/12 years old, chances are you won't get in trouble but you will get a stern talking to so you don't do this again. Usually it's officer discretion as to whether to press charges are not, but I think as long as the boy gets his bike back things will smooth out and you'll be fine.

tell them who took it and they will let you off. If they come to find out you knew who did it and did NOT come forward You will be charged also. So, just let them know who took it and don't hang out if people are stealing if you wanna stay outta trouble.

ok so today me and my to niguh friends that are like 10 and 12 went and stole a bike out of there friends garage, and know the 3 of us got question about it and now were 3 suspects, but i kno the the kid stole it i saw him, the cop found it, and i said i didnt kno who took it i told hm we left and we went back and it was gone, so ill get questioned later by a detective, should i tell him the kid took it? will i get in trouble?

Wow that was hard to read! Please stay in school.

Ok, if you tell the police what you know and what happened you will not get in trouble UNLESS you were an active participant in the crime (ie, you stole the bike, broke the lock, opened the garage, distracted the owner, etc...) and even then you may not be charged because you came clean and assisted in the investigation.

You need to do the right thing. If they do get your friends for stealing the bike (and it sounds like they are going to get them) you may go down for the theft if only because they don't have the whole story, OR your friends may rat you out as having done it!!! Hurry and get your version out asap!

You need to tell!! You will not get in trouble but you need to tell the truth....people will respect you more for doing so! B/C what if your friend does not want to get into trouble and decides to but the blame on you! It happens!!! Just be honest and tell them.....and don't wait until they ask you again you need to come clean on your own!! You will be able to sleep better at night too knowing you did the right thing......the kid who stole the bike needs to get into trouble so he will learn you can not do that and succeed in life!! Hopefully getting in trouble now will stop him from doing it in the future!!! You will be fine as long as you are honest!

Tell me how would you feel if someone stole your bike? If you don't have one then think of something else you wouldn't want stolen. You probably won't get in trouble but sorry to say I hope you at least get in trouble with your parents. What made you guys think it was OK to steal? Stealing will only lead to more trouble later in life. Drop these thief friends & make some new ones. You could end up in jail when you're older, what kind of life is that?
I know if you stole something of mine & I found you before the cops did you would have a hard time sitting for a few days. There has got to be better things to do then steal stuff. How about pulling weeds for a neighbor & making some money? Then you could go to the movies or buy a video game. Maybe you should join little league? Figure out a way to have some honest fun.
