I had a fusion on L3/4 L4/5 back in 2006. Everything above it started to collapse till I ended up with scoliosis. I am 58 yrs. old. Anyway, I had to have a BIG surgery. They went in and pulled my spine up and aligned it so it was straight and held it with Harrington roRAB, screws, and bone to fuse it. (bone from bone bank) Anyway, TWO months later I sill can't walk and stand up straight for some reason. And I went through terrible pain before- but nothing compared to this!!Has anyone had this done? And is it just me or is this normal? Drs. say xrays look good. And they say no physical therapy till 6 months. I am on the same pain meRAB. as before surgery. And that doesn't cut it some days. Any replys would be appreciated. boomer (I can walk -but it is painful and I bend over after walking a few feet)

That is a big surgery, so I can understand why recovery would take so long. I think you should talk to you doctor about your fears and the pain and try to get a better understanding of your progress. Just saying the xrays look good isn't answer enough and I wouldn't settle for that. I would think that "straightening" your spine would have you walking upright and having trouble bending rather than what is going on now, but I haven't had this done and don't know anyone who has. I hope that someone more familiar with this type of surgery comes along to help you.

Hi, I had a fusion on L4,L5 w/roRAB last Jan. Neurosurgeon did the surgery and he said hardware was fine. Didn't get better and started w/nerve pain in legs and feet. About 4 months ago I bent over to wash my hair and felt like I had been stabbed in my back. Had a mylegram and he said everything looked good, just take Lyrica and live w/it. No way, so I took my scans to a reputable orthopedic surgeon and he showed me on the screen I fractured my L5 and had a buldging L3 disc. He put me in a brace for the first time. He also told me I was still healing from my surgery. What a different opinion. The brace and the hope I now have is very encouraging. My brace helps support my spine and gives me the support I need to heal. Best of luck to you.
