Will I avoid roaming charges if the "Airplane Mode" feature is turned ON, on my iPhone

3G? I live in Toronto, ON Canada and I will be traveling to Las Vegas, Nevada USA. I'm scared about roaming charges whether it's voice or data usage. So I'm wondering if I turn on Airplane mode for the entire trip, and use my iPhone as an iPod Touch only, if I'll get no charges what so ever.
