Will getting rid of my media drive make sims 3 run faster and not shut down?!?

I have a plug in media drive for more space on my comp and i thought that if i unplugged it and the comp didn't see it anymore, would it make sims 3 run faster because there weren't any photos, music.....etc on the comp? Help & fast please!
