Will we survive as we do now for another 50 years? Or will civilization collapse due to global warming, peak oil, nuclear warfare, deforestation, species extinction and / or perhaps a global pandemic (disease)? I'm interested to see what most think...
AKMAL if the global society we have today collapsed, human existence would be very different. Obviously we have a long way to go to be truly 'civilized', all I mean by civilization is the standards of living and global communication and transfer of goods and people we have today.
Beagle, thank you for such a well thought out and detailed answer. I think there is a good chance we will collapse, global warming is shaping up to be a huge problem that most governments and individuals have not come to terms with yet - current response to the problem is trivial compared to the global action that is required. But, assuming real action is taken very soon on climate change (which I think unlikely), I like the examples you have given, I too think the problems between rich and poor, and greatly diminished access to resources, will cause many of the problems in the future. I also often forget that the U.S will not remain the superpower for much longer... Another good point of yours - if we haven't collapsed in 50 years and this question is posed again, I wonder what the response would be...
