...am i overreacting? because of the recession i havent been able to find a job for a long time. its almost a year now. one of my friends works as an office clerk and the other one as a hostess at a restaurant. and i will be taking a job as a crew member at mc donalds because in this economy thats the only option i have for now. and i already know what my friends will say after i tell them this. . . i kind of know how they are but im still not sure how all of them will react. i know a few that will put me down right after i tell them though

also im not in school yet, i will be going back next semester. i was thinking of doing the work study program when i finally go back but that will be to long of a wait. im 19 yrs old, ive worked as a sales associate, and my last job was as a front desk clerk. the reason im thinking this way may be fueled by my friends. i just feel like they'll look at me even less if i take this job. .. dont get me wrong im still going to take the job regardless

but what would you do and did anyone go through a similar situation? should i feel embarassed?

I think it's better than collecting unemployment or living off your parents. Plus, I heard McDonald's takes care of their employees.

Dont stress about your friends. You've gotta do what you've gotta do these days to get by. If your friends have a problem with you having to work at McDonalds - then ask them if they wanna pay your bills for you. They arent going to pay themselves.

hey, at least your willing to work for your money instead of living off the governments tit. i was taught that a job is a job and anything you do to make money legally for your lively hood shouldn't make you feel ashamed of yourself.

I would not feel embarassed. You gotta do what you gotta do in times like this. In fact, don't McDonald's employees make fairly decent wages (a few dollars above min wage i think)? Plus, they have benefits if you are full time.

If you're that embarrassed maybe you could work in the kitchen area where no one will see you? Otherwise, wear your golden arches proudly! :)

And btw... what kind of "friend" would put you down for working at a fast food restaurant? You might wanna reconsider these people as friends....

haha McDonald's! No I'm just playing. Of course not you should not ever be ashamed, you are doing an honorable thing by working! Would your friends rather you stayed home and collected welfare? I used to work the fast food joints when I was your age, I think we all had to pay our dues in that regard. Don't expect McDonald's or any other fast food place to be easy work, it's extremely hard, you have to put up with rude people all the time, and they usually don't want to work around your school schedule or anything. You will work your butt off for little pay but like you said times are hard, and you gotta do what you have to to get by! I would be proud to have you as my friend, so if your friends make fun of you for working at McDonald's tell them to just shut up, I don't see them helping you get a job!

Do not be ashamed. It is very nice that you can find any job in this ecomomy. There are so many people out of work,. I know 40 and 50 year olds who have put in applications at fast food resturants only to be turned down.

If anybody gives you grief, don't sweat the loser(s). You have nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed about. With "friends" like that, you don't need enemies!

You're right to take the job. If anyone says anything just point out that the economy is rough, and that you need the money you can get to pay for school. Plus, you're just a kid who doesn't even have a degree yet. McDonald's is a legit job for someone your age.

I'm sure your friends are struggling too, because the recession has hit most people pretty hard. I'm sure they'll understand, and if they don't they can suck it.
