Will an unlocked phone affect how it functions/looks on the original...

if you do this you can customize the phone but it will no longer download updates so when new software comes out you will be stuck with the old one i dont recommend doing this
 
...network it was for? Let's say if you bought an unlocked at&t blackberry but you actually used it for at&t service (it was just cheaper on ebay lol), will it affect how the menu looks or how the phone functions?

This actually is a general question not just concerning blackberries...thanks a lot! :)
