Will a Brother bobbin wind on an external bobbin winder?

I have a brother sewing machine. I know it requires brother brand bobbins. The bobbins will not wind, and I cannot figure out why. I have looked into buying an external bobbin winder, but will the brother brand bobbins wind on this? What makes them so special?

Basically, will an external bobbin winder work, or is it a waste?

Brother is a very common machine, so it's highly likely and external winder would work. But, of course, check the instructions that come with it to see if Brother bobbins will work. The advantage of an external winder is that you don't have to disturb your machine (unthread) to wind a bobbin.

Here are a couple of things to try on the Brother. I've had a Kenmore and now I have a Bernina, so I am basing my suggestion on those. Try seeing if the had wheel has a button you push in or out. Try to see if the place where you put the bobbin moves to the left, right, back of front. Those things sometimes engage the bobbin.

Good luck.
