Will a 15x6 rim fit on a 15x7 tire?

i have 15x7 tires and im wondering if a 15x6 rim will fit, and what will it do to my ride if i put a smaller rim into a bigger tire
you say that it will work? does this mess anything up or do anything to my ride?
